Summate

Privacy Policy

Last updated July 2026. This policy explains how Summate (summate.co.uk) handles information when you use the site.

Who we are

Summate is a free educational website publishing calculators, guides, and glossary content focused on UK personal finance and related everyday topics. For questions about this policy, see our contact page.

What we do not collect

Calculator inputs (salary figures, loan amounts, health measurements, and similar values) are processed in your browser to show results. We do not ask you to create an account, and we do not receive or store the numbers you type into tools on our servers.

Data stored on your device

Summate may use your browser's local storage to remember preferences such as light or dark theme, favourite tools, and recently visited tools. This information stays on your device and is not transmitted to us. You can clear it at any time through your browser's site settings or by clearing site data for summate.co.uk.

Your choices

When you first visit Summate, a cookie banner lets you accept all cookies, reject non-essential cookies, or choose analytics and advertising separately. You can reopen these settings at any time via "Cookie settings" in the site footer. Your choice is stored in your browser's local storage under the key summate-cookie-consent.

Analytics

We use Vercel Analytics to understand aggregate traffic — for example which pages are visited and general performance. This service is designed to be privacy-friendly and does not use third-party advertising cookies for analytics. Analytics helps us improve content and fix issues; it does not identify you personally in the way account-based analytics would.

Advertising and third-party cookies

We may display advertisements through Google AdSense and similar services. Ad partners may set cookies or use device identifiers to serve ads, measure performance, and — where permitted — personalise ads based on your activity on this and other sites.

You can manage how Google uses data for advertising at Google Ad Settings. For more detail on Google's practices, see the Google Privacy Policy. Where required by law, you may be asked to consent to non-essential cookies before personalised advertising is shown.

Legal bases (UK GDPR)

Where UK data protection law applies, we rely on legitimate interests to operate and improve the site and to serve advertising that helps fund free content. Where consent is required for non-essential cookies or personalised ads, we will ask before activating those technologies. You may withdraw consent or object to certain processing where applicable law gives you that right.

Your rights

Depending on where you live, you may have rights to access, correct, delete, or restrict processing of personal data, and to lodge a complaint with a supervisory authority. Because we do not operate user accounts and do not store calculator inputs on our servers, much of the data associated with your visit is either on your device (clearable locally) or held by third-party providers such as Google under their own policies.

Children

Summate is intended for a general audience. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. Health calculators are educational only and are not directed at children for medical decision-making.

Changes to this policy

We may update this page when our practices or legal requirements change. The "last updated" date at the top will reflect the latest revision. Continued use of the site after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated policy to the extent permitted by law.
